Toronto Junior Roller Derby

Where I'm not perfect, but perfectly me.

Welcome to the Flat Track!

JUNIOR ROLLER DERBY is a rapidly growing sport that empowers youth to become strong, confident and physically active. It helps develop valuable leadership skills, a sense of community and builds team spirit. TJRD encourages inclusiveness and we welcome youth of all athletic abilities and backgrounds to join us. You don't need to be a star athlete to be a derby kid, just have a killer attitude and guts!

TORONTO JUNIOR ROLLER DERBY was established in May 2010 to provide youth between the ages of 9 and 18 a safe, fun and supportive environment to learn flat track roller derby. While most of our skaters are girls, boys are welcome to skate with us or learn how to referee.

The JUNIOR ROLLER DERBY ASSOCIATION is a public non-profit educational and amateur sports organization that is dedicated to advancing the growth of roller derby through the standardization of rules and goals for existing and new leagues. TJRD plays light contact to full contact derby using Junior Roller Derby Association Rules.

We practice on SUNDAYS from 11 - 2 at The Bunker, 40 Carl Hall Road, Studio 3, Downsview Park, Toronto, Ontario. Our Season runs from September until the end of June and we accept new skaters throughout the year.

During the summer and early fall TJRD skaters can work independently (no formal coaching) on their derby and skating skills at the High Park outdoor hockey pad. This free-skate season runs from July to the end of October,  Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 pm, weather permitting.

When the numbers permit we offer roller derby/skating skills practice sessions through the City of Toronto, on Monday evenings at Jimmie Simpson Recreation Centre, 870 Queen St East, from 6 - 7:30 pm.  This is a great opportunity for new skaters to work on their basic skating and derby skills. See the Toronto Fun Guide or Contact us for more information.

A special thank you to the master of derby photography Joe Mac for graciously providing photographs for the site. Please take a look at his flickr, facebook and wordpress sites to see  more of his amazing derby collection.
